Volunteer Opportunities

We need your help - join a bargaining committee!

In 2008, we go back to the bargaining table. To get ready, there is much that needs to be done – and we need your help. Please pick from one of the following options to help the Guild:

Bargaining Committee - We need five or so people, representing a cross section of departments, to serve as negotiators. Some will be experienced, but newcomers welcome.

Mobilizing Committee - The rule of thumb is one mobilizer for every 10 members, so that means we need about 30 people. We need people in every department. Your role is to keep members posted on negotiations, encourage people to show their support for their union, and think of ways to visibly support the work of the bargaining committee.

Next Generation - The Guild represents all our members, at every stage of life, and that includes our newest and youngest members. Join this group and help spread the word to new hires about what the union is. Help us take a survey of what benefits our youngest members would like to see.

Family Friendly Workplace Committee - This group’s survey resulted in several new benefits in our last contract including a new adoption benefit and a room for nursing mothers. Join this group and design this year’s survey.

Pension Protection - We all know that nationally, pension plans have been under assault. Changes coming next year will affect us again. We need some dedicated people to study what federal changes will mean and how to respond. We want to do our homework in advance of negotiations, but we need people willing to do some research.
